Dental Hygiene Program

Dental hygienists work in concert with dentists to prevent, diagnose and treat oral diseases. Recognizing the increasing demand for dental hygienists, the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and the College of the Pacific, the University's undergraduate liberal arts and sciences division, have partnered to establish the nation's first 36-month program leading to a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene. This three-year (eight semesters) accelerated program, offered at the main campus in Stockton, is especially designed for highly qualified students. Through integrating education, experiential learning and clinical practice, students learn to work with the dentist and the dental team to treat a wide variety of patients.

Graduates of the Dental Hygiene Program:

  • Provide quality dental hygiene care in an evolving profession
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate dental hygiene services for individual patients and community oral health programs
  • Develop patient counseling programs to encourage disease prevention and good oral health
  • Provide prescribed clinical patient care for patients of all ages and backgrounds, including those with special needs
  • Appreciate and exemplify humanistic values that respect the dignity of each individual
  • Pursue continuous improvement and enhancement through professional development
  • Address the challenges facing the dental hygiene profession and our communities
