Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program is competitive and based on merit. A student may apply as a freshman in a dental hygiene major, completing prerequisite coursework at Pacific. To advance directly to the upper division major coursework at the Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, students must complete their prerequisite coursework with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Any Pacific student who meets the prerequisite course requirements and applies to the upper division program is guaranteed an interview for the professional dental hygiene courses that follow in San Francisco. Acceptance into this dental school portion of the program is based on merit, matriculation is not automatic. Students with other majors at Pacific are welcome to apply provided the prerequisite courses and 2.7 GPA are met.
Another pathway is to apply as a transfer student, completing prerequisites at another institution. After review of the completed application, the Office of Admissions will invite qualified candidates to participate in interviews on campus. In addition to a personal interview, applicants are invited to take part in orientation and financial aid seminars, meet informally with current students, and tour the campus. Admission will be based on the combination of application information and interview.
