Projects
The difficulty that many people with special needs face in accessing dental services can mean that dental treatment is delayed, resulting in more complicated — and more costly procedures — later. The Pacific Center for Special Care strives to create systems change that will promote oral health and the overall well-being of people with disabilities and the elderly.
Projects include:
- Development of the Community-Based System using dental coordinators within the California Regional Center system
- Advocacy for delivery system reform
- Demonstration projects that promote new models of oral health service delivery
- Developing a dental support system in response to the closure of Agnews Developmental Center in Santa Clara, CA
- Building community prevention plans and implementing the use of preventative care products for people with developmental disabilities
- Using RDHAPs in Regional Center care homes
- Developing sound oral health policy on the state level
