



When I first greeted you — specifically the DDS and IDS classes — I asked you what your goals were. You rightfully said, "My goal is to graduate from dental school." That was always on your mind for the last three years. Well, you accomplished that. You have met your goals in extraordinary ways. Today's world is complex, fast‐paced, and dynamic. It demands critical minds, ethical hearts, and a willingness to work together. Fortunately, the education you received at University of the Pacific has prepared you to thrive in this world, and to make a positive difference.

I am here to celebrate our successes, say my words of gratitude, and remember an old friend. These past few years have been an epic adventure filled with lophodonts and possibly disastrous Halloween celebrations, but we survived it and through it we have forged something greater than simply a dental education. I am so proud to be a part of the Pacific Dugoni family.

The wise Martin Luther King, Jr., once said, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." For me, such words are embodied by the men and women of the IDS Class of 2011.
