Second Annual Pacific Dental Hygiene Conference

2009 Hygiene Conference

April 04, 2009

Dugoni School of Dentistry

Event Category: Conferences and Retreats

This annual conference is open to all dental practitioners who are interested in updating their knowledge and skills in the area of dental hygiene. This year's topics include a comprehensive review of women's oral health and the newest developments in prevention and early caries management.

  • Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, BA, MS, will discuss women's oral health through the life stages, from puberty to menopause. Participants will review osteoporosis and its complications, specifically osteonecrosis, and discuss the information oral health care professionals need to make balanced, evidence-based decisions regarding management of patients being treated with bisphosphonates.
  • Dr. Douglas A. Young, faculty member at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, will review a new standard for caries management using chemical and microsurgical approaches. Participants will learn how to prevent and even reverse early lesions using oral disinfectants, modified sugars, fluoride and new salivary diagnostics and replacement therapies, rather than traditional surgical techniques. Young will discuss the site-specific way to manage each carious site.

For more information about the course or to register, please contact the Division of Continuing Education at 415.929.6486 or visit their Web site.
