Dr. Suchit Poolthong, assistant professor and deputy dean for research and international affairs in the Faculty of Dentistry at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, recently visited the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry as part of an informational exchange with school leaders.
The visit included a tour of the dental school's clinics and new oral surgery suites led by Dr. Eddie Hayashida, associate dean for Administration. Dr. Poolthong also met with Dr. Nader Nadershahi, associate dean for Academic Affairs, to discuss collaboration opportunities, learn about the Dugoni School of Dentistry's curriculum and share global perspectives on curricula development for dental education. Dr. Poolthong finished his visit with a meeting with Dr. Doug Young, professor of dental practice.
The visit included a gift exchange, with Dr. Poolthong bringing an emblem from Chulalongkorn University as a gift from his dean to the dental school. In return, the Dugoni School of Dentistry leaders presented him with a commemorative crystal emblem.
"These visits with our international colleagues help us create opportunities to share knowledge and resources, and ultimately raise standards in dental education globally," said Dr. Nader Nadershahi. "It was a pleasure meeting with Dr. Poolthong to learn more about dental education in Thailand and hear about some of the innovations taking place at his university."
The visit comes on the heels of a recent visit by Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr., to Chulalongkorn University as part of his trip to the 9th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry. The oldest university in Thailand, Chulalongkorn has 20 schools including its dental school.
