The University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry met its goal of raising $1.9 million by 2009 for the Dean's Fund for Excellence. Nearly 1,400 individuals &151; alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students &151; answered the call to "partner with Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr." and donated to this campaign.
Launched in July 2006 on the heels of the school's record-setting Commitment to Excellence capital campaign, the $1.9 by '09 campaign reached out to donors via mailings, face-to-face meetings and the school's redesigned Web site. With these efforts, as well as support from the Pacific Dental Education Foundation Board, the school was able to reach its goal. Donations came via many avenues, including annual gifts to the Dean's Fund, as well as the graduating class and reunion gifts.
"On behalf of the entire [Dugoni School] community, we are very grateful for the contributions that so many of our friends have made toward the Dean's Fund," said Dean Ferrillo. "It is extraordinary to have reached this goal in these difficult economic times. The money for this fund will allow us to enhance our technology in our educational program. Many thanks to all who have contributed."
The Dean's Fund provides Dean Ferrillo with the flexibility to enhance the institution and the opportunity to meet any challenges that arise without using student tuition. Recent uses of the funds include the creation of the state-of-the-art central sterilization center, recruitment of top faculty, implementation of the new electronic clinic information system scheduled for July 2009 and subsidizing student participation in organized dentistry.
