The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry raised nearly $50,000 during its annual Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on July 28. More than 140 people participated in the tournament, auction and dinner to raise funds for the Kids in the Klinic endowment, which provides much-needed dental care to underserved children in the Bay Area and Central Valley.
Each year, the dental school's Hutto Patterson Pediatric Clinic delivers $800,000 of dental care at substantially reduced prices to children who could not otherwise afford it. Dental decay is one of the most common infectious diseases among children and more than 50 percent of California children have untreated tooth decay. Funds from the Kids in the Klinic endowment cover treatment for cleft lip and palate, dental restorations, orthodontics and preventive dental education.
Several corporate sponsors contributed to the fundraising event, including Invisalign®; Gensler; Delta Dental; Mitchell & Mitchell; Dexis; Gendex; Imaging Sciences International; KaVo America; Patterson Dental; Pelton & Crane; Tiret & Company CPAs; Health Professionals Insurance Services; Daniel Tanita, DDS; Samaritan Endodontics; Johnson & Johnson; California Dental Arts; Matsco; Sultan Healthcare; Professional Practice Capital; Mechanics Bank; and Sacramento Cardiovascular Surgeons.
Dr. Susan Bittner '74A founded the Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic in 1997 to raise money for the Kids in the Klinic endowment. Today, the endowment is on its way to raising $2 million.
