The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our school family, Peyman Berarpour, Class of 2011. Berarpour tragically lost his life in the evening hours of Nov. 16 as he was riding his motorcycle home from the dental school.
Berarpour was born in Iran and grew up in Fresno, Calif. before attending Pacific in Stockton for his undergraduate education. He was extremely involved in campus life and dedicated much of his time to community service in Stockton until he graduated in 2006.
As a dental student at the Dugoni School of Dentistry, Berarpour was an enthusiastic student who was dedicated to his studies and his patients. His peers remember him as an extremely personable and inspirational person.
"Peyman was like a bright light in a dark room," said Ryan Colletta, Class of 2011 and good friend of Berarpour. "This is a tremendous loss to the dental profession and our community."
"Peyman's contagious smile, innate generosity and genuine concern for others were an example for all members of the Pacific Dugoni Family," adds Dan Hammer, Class of 2011 and another close friend of Berarpour. "His kind heart touched all he met."
Berarpour is survived by his family and loving fiancé, many friends and dental school colleagues.
A remembrance ceremony to honor him was held on Friday, Nov. 20 at the dental school. More than 250 people, including Berarpour's extended family, fellow students, and members of the Sigma Chi fraternity attended the event, which was organized by Dan Hammer and Nikki Dejbod, both from the Class of 2011. Members of the school's faculty and administration also joined with Berarpour's family and friends to share memories about his life and the positive impact he made on others.
