Nearly 150 alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry gathered on Aug. 20 to participate in the Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic, an annual fundraiser held this year at the Olympic Club, one of the country's premier golf venues.
The 15th annual event raised funds that will provide dental care for children and families in need. Proceeds from the tournament and auction will benefit the school's Kids in the Klinic Endowment, which focuses on dental care, education and oral health prevention for socioeconomically disadvantaged children throughout Northern California.
Participants enjoyed an 18-hole round of golf on the Lake Course, which served as the site of the 2012 U.S. Open tournament as well as the 1955, 1966, 1987 and 1998 U.S. Open championships.
After a day on the course, golfers bid on silent auction items while enjoying cocktails and appetizers, followed by dinner and a live auction. Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni, dean emeritus, emceed the evening's festivities and presented trophies to the winning teams of Jason Boldt, Jason Jakovac, Erik Stocker and Doug Yarris (first place gross) and Tom Cho, Todd Iverson, Peter Lyu and Daniel Nam (first place net).
The live auction offered a variety of golf and travel packages and the opportunity for attendees to fund-a-need, or donate directly to the Kids in the Klinic Endowment.
"The money generated at events like the golf classic really does allow us to make a difference in the lives of underserved families who come to our clinic seeking care," said Dr. Jeff Wood, chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and one of the speakers during the evening portion of the event. "We're also able to offer valuable learning experiences for our student dentists who gain knowledge about the unique needs of child patients."
The Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic was started by Dr. Susan Bittner '74 to raise money for the Kids in the Klinic Endowment. Today, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Bittner and many volunteers from the Pacific Dugoni Foundation, the endowment is on its way to reaching its goal of raising $2 million.
Numerous corporate sponsors from the oral healthcare field and the wider Bay Area community contributed to the success of the event. Silver Sponsors were Delta Dental; KaVo/Sybron Group; Mitchell & Mitchell Insurance; Smile Source; and Tiret & Company CPAs.
The event's dinner sponsor was Invisalign; lunch sponsor was Smile Source; and reception sponsor was hope & grace wines. Tee prize sponsors were Patterson Dental; Redmond Orthodontics; Thomas, Wirig, Doll & Co. CPAs; and Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. In addition, seven other individuals and companies supported the event through tee sign sponsorships.
Event organizers are tallying up the final amount raised, which will be announced at a later date.
