With the support of Dean Ferrillo and in collaboration with Building Operations and other departments, the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications has completed its office renovations to better serve the school community. Students, faculty and staff were able to see the updates and changes made to the IT Department during an Aug. 24 open house hosted by the department.
One of the upgrades is the addition of a self-serve business area. Located between rooms 605 and 607, this area offers Windows and Mac computers with the latest hardware and software as well as the capabilities of black and white and color scanning and printing.
The department has also improved its support facilities and communication. Room 605 is now the main entrance for users seeking IT help desk support and assistance with media and classroom technology, including video conferencing. A new monitor overlooking the help desk area feeds information about the department, shows users who is available to assist them, displays help requests that are open, scrolls important IT service status updates and presents general technology news. Room 607 is the location for group networking, systems, website applications, in-house applications and axiUm. It is also a place designated for collaboration and for testing new technology, hardware and software.
"To me, customer service is as important to our Information Technology Department as the technology that we offer," said Raybel Ramos, director of information technology and telecommunications. "The newly remodeled IT Help Desk and expanded technology services area will bring together students, faculty and staff in a richer collaborative environment as well as provide better service."
The IT staff members are in the office to assist the school community from 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. The doors open Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m.
