The International College of Dentists (ICD) has recognized three alumni of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry for their service to the dental profession and to society. During the 81st Annual ICD Convocation, held on Oct. 8, 2010 in Orlando, Fla., Drs. David Nielsen '86, Ralan Wong '92 '93 AEGD and Debra A. Woo '86 were honored as fellows of the organization.
Selected by invitation only, fellows must be active contributors to the profession of dentistry and their communities. They are individuals who are esteemed for integrity and continually strive to maintain and elevate the profession through high standards of ethical conduct.
This year 250 dentists from the United States were inducted as fellows. Joining the three Dugoni School alumni inductees at the induction event were other alumni including Drs. Dennis Shinbori '75 and Wayne Del Carlo '68, who serve as deputy regent and regent, respectively, for the ICD's District 13 (California), as well as faculty member Dr. Bruce Toy '81, an ICD vice regent.
"It is a tremendous honor to be chosen as a fellow of the International College of Dentists," remarked Woo, who currently serves as president of the Dugoni School of Dentistry's Alumni Association. "To be recognized by colleagues for contributions to dentistry is humbling and inspirational."
The ICD has chapters in more than 80 countries with approximately 10,800 members. Its mission is to advance the science and art of dentistry for the health and welfare of the public; to bring together the world's outstanding members of the dental profession for the exchange of dental knowledge; to encourage the growth of the profession; and to promote cordial relations among dentists worldwide.
