Kids in the Klinic: Vino de Mayo Event to Raise Funds for Oral Healthcare for Underserved Children

April  06, 2012

University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry will hosts its biennial charity wine auction, Vino de Mayo, on May 5 to benefit the Kids in the Klinic Endowment. Wine enthusiasts and school supporters are invited to gather at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco for a festive celebration to support oral healthcare, preventative services and education for socioeconomically disadvantaged children throughout Northern California.

The Vino de Mayo event will feature a silent auction showcasing a variety of acclaimed wines, as well as destination and dining experiences. Guests will be treated to wine and tequila tastings, a gourmet dinner and a live auction led by celebrity auctioneer David Reynolds.  Live auction prizes include a stay at the luxurious Casa San Marco in Cortona, Tuscany for 10 people, and a three-course dinner for six at the Chef's Table of Parallel 37 at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco.

Honorary chairs for the 2012 Vino De Mayo event are Julio Bermejo, proprietor of Tommy's Mexican Restaurant; Gerald Hirigoyen, executive chef of Piperade and Bocadillos; Hubert Keller, executive chef of Fleur de Lys and Burger Bar; and Liam Mayclem, Emmy Award-winning host of Eye on the Bay. Drs. Michael Fox, Steve Reynolds, Doug Yarris and Mr. Mike Carroll are the event co-chairs.

Vino de Mayo will help the Kids in the Klinic Endowment reach its goal of raising two million dollars to support dental care for children at the school's pediatric dentistry and orthodontics clinics. The clinics provide access to dental care for approximately 1,500 children each year. For many working families without dental insurance, regular care is an unaffordable luxury, and many patients have never seen a dentist prior to visiting the clinic.

"The Kids in the Klinic endowment helps us provide the best possible treatment regardless of a family's ability to pay," said Dr. Patrick J. Ferrillo Jr. dean of the Dugoni School of Dentistry. "Without the generous support from the attendees, donors and sponsors, much of what we do to help these underserved children would not be possible."

Tickets to Vino De Mayo are $350 per person. For more information, or to register to receive an event invitation for Vino de Mayo, contact Joanne Fox at 415.929.6423 or jfox@pacific.edu.
