University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry honored Nancy Hsu, class of 2010, with the Dr. Thomas R. Bales Family Endowment Good Samaritan Award on January 10. Hsu received a plaque and a $5,000 scholarship during the dental school's annual Over the Hump Party — a celebration to recognize students for completing half of Pacific's dental program.
School of Dentistry alumnus and benefactor Dr. Thomas R. Bales established the award in 2004 to recognize a second-year student for demonstrating exemplary kindness to fellow classmates. A committee comprised of faculty, administrators and student body officers nominated Hsu and others for the honor, and she was selected by a vote of her classmates.
"I have always admired the enthusiasm of the Pacific family, and to be surrounded by such wonderful people has motivated me to help out my classmates in any way I can," said Hsu. "It's a tremendous honor to be chosen to receive this generous award, and I look forward to many other opportunities ahead to be able to contribute to my class."
Hsu received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis. She currently serves as student body secretary. Hsu hopes to enter a General Practice Residency program after graduating from dental school.
