Pacific Joins Forces with Kaiser Permanente to Host Free Community Health Clinic in Stockton

March  05, 2013

University of the Pacific's Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy are partnering with Kaiser Permanente to offer a free health fair to Central Valley residents on Saturday, March 9, 2013. The health fair is open to attendees of all ages and will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Pacific's Stockton Campus.

Student, faculty and staff from the pharmacy and dental schools, along with community volunteers, will provide care for patients at the health fair. Services offered will include immunizations; blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings; monitoring for chronic conditions; safety training; Medicare Part D review; health education outreach and more. Comprehensive dental services (emergency care, fillings, extractions, etc.) will be offered to 50 qualified attendees, and preventative dental services (cleanings, varnishes, oral cancer screenings, etc.) will be offered to 150 qualified attendees.

The health fair exists thanks to a $73,415 grant given by Kaiser Permanente to University of the Pacific last fall. This grant is funded from Kaiser Permanente's Community Benefit program, which supports efforts to reduce barriers to accessing health care, supports community clinics and public hospitals, develops Healthy Eating Active Living programs and funds Community Health Initiatives.

"This generous Kaiser Permanente gift is a way for our two organizations — University of the Pacific and Kaiser — to give back to our community. It's also a great opportunity for our students to get hands-on training in healthcare, which remains a bright spot in our economy," said University of the Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck at Pacific Appreciation Luncheon held in October, when the grant was officially announced. "I'd like to thank Kaiser Permanente for its continuing commitment to work with University of the Pacific to strengthen the health of our community."

The March 9 event will take place at Pacific's Chan Family Health Sciences Learning Center and Clinic Building located at 757 Brookside Road, Stockton, CA 95211. Free bus rides to the clinic are being provided by the San Joaquin Regional Transit District.

More information about the health fair, services offered, and transportation to and from the event is available on Pacific's event calendar.
