Several faculty and graduates of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry were recognized by the Pierre Fauchard Academy during a recent awards ceremony held on September 12, 2009 at the San Francisco Marriott.
The annual event hosted by the Academy's Northern California Section recognizes the achievements of dental professionals throughout the region.
Founded in 1936, the Pierre Fauchard Academy is an international honorary dental organization that recognizes outstanding dentists and celebrates their achievements. It seeks to support the highest ideals of dentistry throughout the world in both ethical and moral practice, through service to community, country and profession.
The Academy awards medals and other honors to people who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to dentistry and who are recognized as worthy role models for others in the profession.
Dr. Thomas Indresano, chair of the school's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, was given the Dental Faculty Recognition Award, and Parag Kachalia, assistant professor of restorative dentistry, received the Dental Faculty Development Grant.
In addition, the following faculty members were inducted into the Academy: Noelle Santucci, assistant professor in Restorative Dentistry, Phil Buchanan, assistant professor in Restorative Dentistry; and Erich Werner, DDS 1988, assistant professor in Removable Prosthodontics.
Graduates inducted into the academy were David Ehsan, DDS 1995; Daniel Freeman, DDS 1984; Deepinder Nijjar, DDS 2004; James Stephens, DDS 1982 and Walter Weber, DDS 1976.
The Pierre Fauchard Academy currently comprises 7,000 fellows from 119 sections in 65 countries. Members are dentists who have been judged to be among the most outstanding leaders in various fields of dentistry. Fellowship in the Academy is by nomination by professional leaders and is designed to be both an accolade to past accomplishment and an encouragement to future productivity.
