Raybel Ramos, the director of the Information Technology (IT) Department at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, was recently named the 2012 Cavanaugh Distinguished Service Award winner. During a ceremony on Dec. 14, the dental school community gathered to honor Ramos and celebrate his accomplishments and efforts. He received a check for $500 and an award plaque.
The Cavanaugh Distinguished Service Award is funded by University of the Pacific Vice President for Finance Patrick Cavanaugh and his wife Janita. It recognizes staff members from Pacific's Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco campuses for exceptional accomplishments, leadership, innovation and service to the university community. Faculty and staff nominate colleagues who have contributed to the school's vision, mission and values.
According to colleagues who nominated him for the award, Ramos has a positive and courteous attitude of service and brings new ideas and options for technology programs and initiatives to the table. They say his friendly and cheerful demeanor makes him approachable and easy to work with.
As director of the IT Department, Ramos leads a team of 10 employees and is responsible for overseeing all areas of IT activity, including help-desk support; software and hardware implementation; electronic database management and web-based programs. In his years as director Ramos has overseen many projects, including the implementation of the school's clinic management system, axiUm. He is also playing an integral role in establishing technology priorities at the school's new campus in the South of Market neighborhood. He's currently spearheading experimentation with software and hardware options to serve student, faculty and staff needs in advance of the school's move to the new campus in the summer of 2014.
