The American Association of Dental Research, San Francisco Section honored two students from the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry for research projects presented during the organization's annual meeting held Oct. 19.
Jordan Lamberton, Class of 2009, earned the second-place award and Dr. Alia Al-Jabeiti '08 Ortho earned the fourth-place award. Both research projects evaluated specific genes that may be associated with the occurrence of cleft lip and palate. Judges from Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco selected the two research projects for the awards based on scientific merit and presentation.
"We were very pleased with the number and high quality of the poster presentations by UCSF and Pacific students and postdoctoral fellows at this event," said Dr. Nejat Düzgünes, professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology and one of the organizers of the event. "Jordan and Alia's faculty mentor, Dr. Marie Tolarova of the Department of Orthodontics, deserves special recognition for directing these exciting but difficult research projects."
