The Kids in the Klinic Endowment at University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry will receive nearly $100,000 thanks to a successful Vino de Mayo wine auction and dinner held on May 5. More than 230 wine and food enthusiasts gathered at the biennial event held at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco. The fundraiser supports much-needed dental care, education and oral health prevention to socioeconomically disadvantaged children throughout Northern California.

Vino de Mayo began in the early evening with a silent auction showcasing a variety of acclaimed wines, travel packages and dining experiences. Representatives from 16 wineries were on hand to pour tastings for guests. Following a three-course dinner in the ballroom, a live auction led by celebrity auctioneer David Reynolds featured items such as a stay at the luxurious Casa San Marco in Cortona, Tuscany for 10 people; dinner for six at the Jacobsen's Yountville Orchard prepared by chefs from the French Laundry; and a U.S. Open Championship Grounds Package.

The Vino de Mayo event helps the Kids in the Klinic program move toward its goal of raising two million dollars to support oral healthcare for children at the school's pediatric dentistry and orthodontics clinics. The clinics provide access to care for approximately 1,500 children each year. For many working families without dental insurance, regular care is an unaffordable luxury, and many patients have never seen a dentist prior to visiting the school's clinics.

"The Kids in the Klinic Endowment allows us to provide dental treatment to children regardless of their family's ability to pay," said Dean Patrick J. Ferrillo. Jr. "Without the generous support from the Vino de Mayo attendees, donors and sponsors, much of what we do to help these underserved children would not be a possibility."

Honorary chairs for the 2012 Vino De Mayo event were Julio Bermejo, proprietor of Tommy's Mexican Restaurant; Gerald Hirigoyen, executive chef of Piperade and Bocadillos; Hubert Keller, executive chef of Fleur de Lys and Burger Bar; and Liam Mayclem, Emmy Award-winning host of Eye on the Bay. Drs. Michael Fox, Steve Reynolds, Doug Yarris and Mr. Mike Carroll were the event co-chairs.

The event's Titanium Sponsors were Margaret and Dr. Ron Redmond '66, and its Platinum Sponsor was Tiret & Company. Gold Sponsors were Bank of San Francisco; Ed Bedrossian, DDS; and California Bank of Commerce.

Participating wineries were (in alphabetical order): Bell Wine Cellars, Cade Winery, Daviana Winery, 14 Appellations, Göpfrich Vineyard & Winery, hope & grace wines, Iron Horse Vineyard, Loos Family Winery, LLC, Padis Family Vineyards, Palmaz Vineyards, Palmeri Wines, PlumpJack Winery, Renteria Wines, Reynolds Family Winery and Thomas Knoll Winery.

Numerous board members of the Pacific Dugoni Foundation also attended the event. The Foundation's mission is to ensure that the dental school has the resources it needs to realize its visions and goals.
