North Beach is known as a destination for Italian immigrants and the home of the Beat movement. The former have left their mark with a number of Italian restaurants, bakeries and cafes, and the latter with Beat-era hangouts such as City Lights Bookstore. Landmarks include Coit Tower and Washington Square.
