School History

Founded in 1896 as the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry has served the San Francisco Bay Area for more than a century. The dental school joined the University of the Pacific in 1962, and in 2004 was named after long-time dean and renowned dental educator Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni. Pacific became the first and only university in the United States or Canada to name its dental school after a current dean.

The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is highly regarded for its:

  • Humanistic model of education that respects the dignity of each individual and fosters limitless potential for growth;
  • Accelerated year-round predoctoral program where students are able to complete four academic years of instruction in three calendar years; and
  • Innovation in dental curriculum, including comprehensive patient care and competency-based education.
