Federation Hall
First Building (1897-1899)

This building, known as Federation Hall, located at 818 Howard Street near 4th Street, was leased in September 1886 for two and a half years as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of San Francisco.

Instruction began here on January 4, 1897.  The first graduates, only five in dentistry, received their diplomas on July 15, 1897.

Second Building (1899-1906)

In 1899, a new College of Physicians and Surgeons school was built at 344 14th Street to  improve instruction in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.  This building was destroyed in the April 1906 earthquake and fire.  Later that same year, the structure was rebuilt, but without the cornices and columnns, and reopened.

Infirmary (1922)

In 1918, the College of Physicians and Surgeons medical and pharmacy departments closed.  The dental department continued to flourish, as shown in this 1922 photograph of the infirmary.  The school continued to be located at the 14th Street until 1967, when it moved to a new building at Webster and Sacramento Streets and became affiliated with the Unversity of the Pacific in Stockton.
