Overcoming Difficulties in Local Anesthesia

A one-day workshop designed for dentists and hygienists who want to master some of the difficulties in local anesthesia. The objective is to offer the dental practitioner an opportunity to gain confidence and master these difficulties through a combination of lecture, demonstration laboratory and hands-on clinical participation. Special emphasis will be placed on mandibular block anesthesia and anesthetizing accessory innervation to mandibular posterior teeth. Enrollment limited to 18. (Full Day Symposium/ Clinic)

Medical Consideration in Local Anesthesia

A half-day lecture on medical considerations in local anesthesia providing a thorough understanding of how local anesthesia can medically impact certain individuals. Complete guidelines are given for all medical conditions that restrict usual local anesthesia. (Half Day Lecture)

Clinical Local Anesthesia Workshop

A half-day lecture or workshop on: selecting local anesthetic agents, techniques in painless and profound anesthesia with emphasis on palatal anesthesia and the mandibular block injections, and diagnosing and treating incomplete anesthesia to the mandible due to accessory innervations. Enrollment is not limited to the lecture but is limited if a workshop format. (Half Day Lecture or Workshop)

Dr. James Dower

Dr. James Dower is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry at Pacific. He has been the Co-Director and Director of Pacific's Clinical Local Anesthesia course since 1979. In 1998, rotations in Local Anesthesia were added to the curriculum. Dr. Dower has a Master's degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling.
