Pacific Pipeline Program
|
|
Pacific is one of 15 dental schools across the nation that are participating in the National Pipeline Program . Launched in 2003, the Pipeline, Profession & Practice: Community-Based Dental Education (Dental Pipeline) program is a five-year program designed to help increase access to dental care for underserved populations. Grant funds from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The California Endowment were made available to 15 U.S. dental schools to develop community-based clinical education programs that provide care to the most vulnerable populations and to increase recruitment and retention of low-income and underrepresented minority students.
Pacific’s program focused with achieving the objectives of the California Pipeline Initiative:
- Enhance residency education programs
- Recruit under-represented minority and low income (URM/LI) students
- Enhance dental student community rotations
- Participate in The Endowment sponsored California Policy Council
In support of the work of the California Policy Council, in 2005 Pacific conducted the Community Capacity Study, a landmark analysis of the ability of community clinics to work with dental school's students and residents to improve access to oral health care.
