Oral Cancer: What's Old and What's New?
An estimated 51,540 new cases of cancer of the oral cavity and pharynx will be diagnosed in in the US in 2018. It is important that the dental community and allied dental professionals be familiar with the risk factors and early signs of this serious disease. Presented by Dr. Leticia Ferreira, the most common cancer to affect the oral cavity, squamous cell carcinoma, will be discussed with an emphasis on risk factors, signs and symptoms and how dental professional can impact the survivability and quality of life of affected patients.

Diabetes Health Awareness, April 9, 2018
Diabetes affects many people today and students and faculty need to become more proactive in educating our patients. Having the information and knowledge to have an educated conversation with our patients will work towards a more proactive and preventive approach in the fight against Diabetes. Presented by Dr. Kim Benton DDS, a part-time assistant professor in the department of Clinical Oral Health at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Mindfulness/Stress Management, September 19, 2017
This workshop focused on development of a holistic view of health and wellness. Five specific aspects of wellness: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual were discussed by Scott Plymale, LCSW, PhD, and licensed clinical social worker. 

Health Risks of Smoking
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States and has negative health impacts on people at all stages of life. The most current scientific knowledge about the health effects of cigarette smoking and the benefits of cessation were discussed by Dr. Ferreira, a board certified oral pathologist and a full-time assistant professor at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry .

Noise-Induced Hearing Loss as it Relates to Dentistry
Dr. Rupa Balachandran and Dr. Kristin Hallstrom taught participants how prolonged occupational noise exposure can have a damaging effect on the inner ear, causing an irreversible loss of hearing and/or tinnitus.

Tai Chi
Instructor Nathan Ng taught participants the beautiful, gentle, and flowing movements of the enjoyable and deeply relaxing art of Tai Chi.
