Fans of golf and philanthropy recently gathered to enjoy a stunning day on the links to benefit a good cause - healthcare for underserved children who otherwise would not be able to afford it.

The 19th annual Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic raised more than $70,000 to benefit the Kids in the Klinic Endowment at University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. Held Oct. 17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, the event attached nearly 200 golfers, including Dugoni School alumni, local sports celebrities, corporate sponsors and others interested in teeing up for good.

"This was a hugely successful fundraiser thanks to the generosity of our players, sponsors, special guest and volunteers," said Dr. Doug Yarris ‘83, a Dugoni School alumnus and chair of the event organizing committee. "This is all for the kids. I'm so thankful we were able join together for fun and philanthropy to support this great cause. Your involvement will change the lives of many children and underserved families throughout Northern California."

Special guests included celebrity jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips who performed the national anthem before the event; Super Bowl winning quarterback Jim Plunkett; Golden State Warriors "hype man" Franco Finn; KTVU sports director and guest emcee Mark Ibanez; former Warriors center and current team ambassador Adonal Foyle; golf long-ball hitter and entertainer Rob Oristaglio; Golden State Warriors courtside TV reporter Ros Gold-Onwude; Harlem Globetrotter Alumnus Roy Byrd, proprietor of Byrd's Nest Cigars; hope & grace winemaker Charles Hendricks; Mayor of Yountville John F. Dunbar; and members of the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Squad and Golden State Warriors Dance Team.

Fun on-course activities included the JetBlue Challenge for Closest to the Pin and Hole in One opportunities, along with a long-drive challenge. The on-course action was followed by a cocktail reception, dinner, raffle, and silent and live auctions held in the clubhouse.

The 2016 Kids in the Klinic Golf Classic winning team was Cole Hemingway, Grant Hemingway, Pat Hemingway and Rich Reichow.

Kids in the Klinic is a volunteer-led program that helps provide dental care and oral health education to disadvantaged children at the Hutto-Patterson Pediatric Clinic and the Redmond Family Orthodontic Clinic at the Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco.

Each year the Dugoni School provides more than $26 million in oral healthcare services at a discounted price to approximately 10,000 patients. The school provides care to people from all walks of life, including children, adults, seniors, those with special needs, HIV/AIDS patients and other groups. The Kids in the Klinic Endowment is an important resource to fund care for underserved children and families from throughout Northern California.

"Our Hutto Patterson Pediatric Dentistry Clinic and Redmond Family Orthodontic Clinic treat thousands of patients every year," said Dr. Nader A. Nadershahi, dean of the Dugoni School. "The Kids in the Klinic Endowment provides important funding for many of those children to receive treatment and oral health education at little to no cost. Tooth decay is the most common chronic illness among school-age children, and early prevention and treatment will help these children live healthier and happier lives."

This year's event sponsors included Invisalign; Patterson Dental; Kavo Kerr Group; Tiret & Company CPAs; NBC Bay Area; hope & grace winery; Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni; Mitchell & Mitchell; Heritage Bank of Commerce; California Bank of Commerce; Stevens Hemingway Stevens Inc.; J.D. Van Nest & Associates; and Team Superstores.
