Root canal procedures have often been the bane of dental practitioners’ existence. Dental pain and root canal failures were once a common ideology and the public perception was one of a long tedious process resulting in discomfort. Even in today’s modern dental practice, the dental provider must continue to deal with this perception as well as the intricacies of the root canal anatomy.  With the introduction of nickel titanium, a variety of file designs, cone-beam computed tomography and the expanded knowledge of why root canal failures occur, root canal therapy has become somewhat easier yet more difficult to achieve success. Many manufacturers have provided the dental profession with the myth of simpler procedures that can increase profitability. This hands-on workshop will cover a variety of concepts in everyday clinical endodontics, including the complexity of locating canals, choosing methods to mechanically instrument 80% to 90% of teeth in an efficient manner, biologically cleansing the entire root canal system and hermetically sealing the apex and canal system to prevent failure. Dr. Wong will provide a step-by-step approach to successfully implementing root canal therapy in your office. All participants will receive a detailed handout. You Will Learn To access anterior, bicuspid and molar teeth, and to avoid pitfalls To easily clean and shape the root canal space in everyday practice To utilize modern methods and different irrigation solutions to fully and accurately disinfect the root canal space To hermetically seal the root canal space for success Participants are required to bring three to four teeth (molars and bicuspids), already accessed and instrumented to patency, for the workshop. Faculty Ralan Wong, DDS, MS, is a fifth-generation San Franciscan and a third-generation alumnus from the Dugoni School of Dentistry. He completed his graduate training in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1997 where he earned the Grossman Award for outstanding clinical and academic performance. He has been inducted into numerous academies and colleges in dentistry.
