Bernadette Alvear Fa
Dr. Bernadette Alvear Fa is an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry (formerly the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Sciences) and course director for the local anesthesia curriculum at Pacific. A 2006 graduate of Pacific, she was also a clinical instructor at University of Illinois, Chicago, for two years before joining the Pacific faculty in 2010. She currently practices with the Faculty Dental Service Group at the school.
Dr. Kalid Aziz is an assistant professor in the Department of Dental Practice and a Group Practice Leader in the student clinic. Prior to joining Pacific, he worked as a faculty member at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin overseeing core academic dental disciplines, mentoring dental students performing clinical work and providing comprehensive care to patients in their faculty practice. He currently practices with the Faculty Dental Service Group at the school while focusing strongly on aesthetic and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Gretchen J. Bruce is an associate professor in the Department of Periodontics. She graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She received her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Illinois. Her postgraduate periodontal residency was completed at Boston University. She also earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of the Pacific Eberhardt School of Business. She has published several articles in respected journals, is a contributing author of the clinical text Hall’s Critical Decisions in Periodontology, and has developed widely used periodontal education materials. Dr. Bruce has lectured extensively to dental organizations and provided the community with numerous seminars on periodontal and treatment. Dr. Bruce practices in the Faculty Dental Service Group at Pacific and maintains a private practice in Oakland, California.
Dr. Darren Cox is an associate professor of pathology and medicine in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences (formerly the Department of Dental Practice and Community Service.)
Dr. Robert English is a group practice leader in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences.
Dr. Leticia Ferreira is an assistant professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences.
Dr. Galicia is an assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics. Dr. Galicia finished his residency and master's degree in endodontics at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill. As part of his training, he provided endodontic care to patients in the dental school, in the VA Hospital in Durham, in Raleigh Central Prison and in the UNC Hospital to patients under general anesthesia. Dr. Galicia is also trained in endodontic trauma management, apical microsurgery (apicoectomy) and regenerative endodontics. Having a PhD in Oral biology, he is also actively doing research on endodontic molecular diagnosis and immune response.
Dr. Des Gallagher is an assistant professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and a Group Practice Leader in the student clinic. As a dental student he joined the army, completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency and undertook several oversea tours and operational deployments during his seven year service. On completion, he established and built up a successful private practice, undertook further postgraduate training and became involved in dental education as a part time dental instructor at Trinity College Dublin School of Dentistry.
Dr. Eduardo Gonzalez is an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry and part of the Complex Care Team. His practice focuses on all aspects of Implant Dentistry, with special interest in esthetic implant restorations and implant site development for the partially edentulous patient.
Dr. Gary Grill is an assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics.
Dr. Brian Kenyon is an associate professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and a Group Practice Leader in the student clinic. He has received six Teaching Excellence Awards at Pacific, the American College of Dentists Distinguished Northern California Faculty Member Award and has been elected to the Tau Kappa Omega and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Societies. He maintains a private practice in San Francisco.
Dr. Eugene LaBarre has been a full-time prosthodontics faculty member at the school since 1981 and has served as department chair of Removable and Implant Prosthodontics for 20 years. Prior to teaching at Pacific, he taught at Tufts, Temple University and the University of Geneva in Switzerland. His research interests include public health and globalizing higher education. He is a teaching consultant at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco and La Clinica de la Raza in Oakland.
Dr. William Lundergan is professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics at Pacific. He has served as the chair and councilor for the American Dental Education Associations Section on Periodontics and is a past member of the American Academy of Periodontology’s Education Committee. He maintains a private practice through the Faculty Dental Services Group at pacific and is a co-editor and author for the fifth edition of Hall’s Critical Decisions in Periodontology.
Dr. Christine Peters is a professor in the Department of Endodontics at Pacific. She received her postgraduate training at Zurich University where she became an assistant professor of endodontics. She is contributor to two textbooks, Pathways of the Pulp and Ingle’s Endodontics, and has authored numerous scientific papers. She is past president of the Northern Californian Academy of Endodontics.
Dr. Edward Shaw is an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Ulf Temnitzer is an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Chi Tran is an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Russ Woodson has held many positions in the last 29 years of working at University of the Pacific. He has served as a clinical instructor, clinic administrator, Director of Operative Dentistry, quality assurance coordinator and international dental studies coordinator. He is also a regional dental consultant to numerous insurance companies and to the state of California Denti-Cal program. He has been an active practicing general dentistry in the Faculty Dental Service Group since 1985.
Roan is a registered dental hygienist in the Faculty Dental Service Group.
Penny Asami Wong
Penny Asami Wong is a registered dental hygienist with over 25 years of experience in both general and periodontal practice and over 15 years with the school's Faculty Practice. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco.
